USNS POMEROY: A Birth of a Ship, Remembrance of a Hero

Another war is upon us, my friends.  There’s already too much doom and gloom in the world.  And I ask myself, “How will this end?”  As one of my friends said, “It’s getting harder to find pockets of happiness.”

I decided to post this video as a reminder of the sacrifices that our brave men and women serving in uniform make to protect us — all of us — including the jokers and clowns in the White House and Congress.

No matter what the outcome, we need to support our troops.  Please feel free to share this video with your family and friends.

About this video:

One cool thing about living in San Diego is I get to see tons of military ships.  It’s good to know that America can still build BIG things.  On March 10, 2001 I attended a christening ceremony for the USNS Pomeroy at the NASSCO Shipyards.

The ship was named in honor of Private First Class Ralph E. Pomeroy (Army) who was killed in combat during the Korean War.  He was awarded the Congress the Medal of Honor posthumously for his remarkable bravery and sacrifice.

I documented the occasion on black & white and color super 8 mm film.  In fact this was the last roll of Kodak sound film I ever shot.  I transferred it to video using my projector and a mini DV camera.
